Do you ever wonder how do you live a happy life? What does a happy life consist of?
What do you even mean by happy life?
I asked this question to my grandma who is now 85 and she said, “satisfaction is happiness.” I had no words to argue cause she says she has lived fair life and I have not! Being satisfied is difficult.
She doesn’t complain much because she is grateful that she has gotten to live a better life with lesser adversaries than other people she has seen and heard of.
Do you need happiness advice to live a happy life?
Happiness advice isn’t hard to come by but truly a happy person is surely a rare encounter!
In this fast-paced materialistic world money undoubtedly affects the happiness of an individual but that’s not all the true happiness. The magical potion to living a good life is a combination of a lot of hard work, healthy relationships, sound health and energy, self-awareness and satisfaction, peace of mind, financial freedom, and social acceptance.
There’s no sure guide on the best way to live life but there are some ways you can live a purposeful happier life, no matter where you are in the journey of Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs towards happy and self-fulfilled life.
This post doesn’t have mysterious secrets on how to be a healthier and more productive human being really. These are some tips to be happy regardless of what your life throws at you.
So, what does it take to live a happy life?
10 things you can do to start being happy
In 2022, I made a list of things I would do to become a happier person, so far as of the time of writing this post, I have been successfully able to do 4 out of 10 things. And my happiness graph is inclining a little bit not going to lie! It’s a lifetime of practice and it’s too soon to expect I will achieve Zen level happiness anytime soon.
So here are a few things on my list and should be in yours too!
1. Make time for yourself.
It’s important to take some time out for yourself, especially if you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed. Make sure you schedule in some “me time” each week, whether that means taking a yoga class, reading a book, or taking a walk in nature.
2. Connect with loved ones.
Another key to happiness is spending time with loved ones. Whether you stay in touch via text, social media, or in person, make sure you carve out regular time to connect with the people who matter most to you.
3. Get moving.
Exercise is not only good for your physical health, but it can also boost your mood and alleviate stress. Even if you don’t love working out, there are plenty of other ways to get active that can be fun, such as hiking, dancing, or biking.
4. Eat healthily.
Everyone knows how to live a healthy lifestyle. Everyone knows they have to eat healthily but it takes a lot of self-discipline to control the quality of food we consume in today’s world. What you eat has a direct impact on how you feel both physically and mentally. Make an effort to eat more whole foods and less processed junk. This doesn’t mean you can never indulge in your favourite comfort foods, but try to make healthier choices most of the time.
5. Let go off everything unnecessary.
One of the quickest ways to feel overwhelmed and stressed is by trying to do too much. If your to-do list is constantly growing, it’s time to take a step back and simplify. Prioritize the things that are most important to you and let go of anything that isn’t truly necessary.
6. Practice gratitude for a happy life.
Gratitude is one of the true-life tips that will guide you on how to live a good life even when you are facing adversaries. When you focus on all the good in your life, it’s easier to be happy and content. Make it a habit to regularly express gratitude for the people and things you’re thankful for. You can do this by keeping a gratitude journal or simply taking a few moments each day to reflect on what you’re grateful for.
7. Be present.
The best lifestyle is to enjoy your life more is by living in the moment and savouring experiences as they happen. When you’re constantly worried about the future or dwelling on the past, you miss out on what’s happening right in front of you. Try to focus on the present as much as possible and enjoy the moment.
8. Take breaks.
It’s also important to take regular breaks from your busy life in order to rejuvenate yourself. Whether you take a day off each week or just step away for a few minutes every hour, make sure you schedule some time for rest and relaxation.
9. Cultivate self-care habits.
In order to be happy and healthy, it’s important to care for yourself both physically and mentally. This means taking care of your body with exercise and healthy eating, but it also means taking care of your mind by practising mindfulness, journaling, and spending time in nature.
10. A happy life equals to living your passion.
Finally, one of the best things you can do for yourself is to find and pursue your passion. When you’re doing something you love, it’s easy to be happy and content. Figure out what brings you joy and make time for those activities in your life.
